Kinesthetic Number Line

"Tell
me about mathematics and I will forget, show me mathematics
and I
might remember, involve me in mathematics
and I will understand."
NumberStreet™ kinesthetic number line gets students involved
in math! It's a great tool for developing a conceptual understanding
and explaining computational procedures to the auditory,
kinesthetic and visual learner. Stories in the activity
guide included
in the package allow children to act out mathematical procedures
and discover number relationships by using the familiar to
understand the unfamiliar. Or, in other words, by moving
from the concrete to the abstract.
Although the kinesthetic number line was designed primarily
for children who learn best by manipulating objects, it is
also ideal for all students K-2, as well as special needs
and remedial learners. It reinforces one to one correspondence,
reduces math anxiety and will get students on the fast track
to developing a positive attitude towards math.
To count with our kinesthetic number line, a magic wand must
be used to lift and roll the ball to a specific location
along NumberStreet™. But, the wands magnetic strength has
been calculated
precisely so that the ball will not stay attached if movement
is too abrupt. A student must focus on the task at hand in
order to move the ball successfully. This extra measure of
forced concentration slows down any tendency he or she might
have to count fast verbally and thus reinforces the idea
that each move represents a single count.
